Article write up on De'Anna and the Mind Body Fit Club for the Surf City Marathon

It was the fifth grade, Mr. Cox’s class when I sadly engaged in my first diet. It marked the beginning of a dysfunctional twenty year relationship with dieting. Seeking self esteem and well-being, I ventured to create a career path that allowed me the freedom to abolish my own self-limiting beliefs, and provide a method for others to do the same. For fifteen years I have had the privilege of working with the transformative art of Hypnotherapy, and have maintained a forty pound weight loss as a direct result.

Specializing in two main areas, laughter and success, has been my focus. Bringing entertainment and fun to the American troops stationed overseas, the HypnoChick Comedy Show Experience has been an annual standing room only tour for over a decade. We just recently were sent to Okinawa, Japan in January 2011 to perform for the United States Marine Corps.

In addition to creating light hearted laughter, the Mind Body Fit Club, a national weight loss club exclusively for women, was founded in 2008 as an effort to provide an alternative to traditional weight loss programs. Our methodology focuses on the internal challenges; improving positive mindset, increased confidence, and shifting eating habits. The results are motivated, happy women that are embracing their bodies with kindness, and striving for goals they never thought possible. Collectively, they’ve lost hundreds of pounds, and are participating in athletic events.

My sister in law introduced me to running while on vacation in Hawaii two and a half years ago. Running just three miles was a chore at first, but as I improved, I caught the bug. As a means to continually inspiring the Mind Body Fit Club ladies I kept it up, and discovered it to be a convenient activity that I could do while performing at various venues with the HypnoChick Show. All I needed was a pair of shoes, and my Ipod, and I was burning calories and feeling more energetic than ever. Inadvertently, at forty one years old I am in the best shape of my life.

Running has become a mentor. I was not an athlete growing up. I considered the high school P.E. uniforms to be a fashion DON’T. You would have found me ditching and smoking cloves behind the bleachers. Yet, over the last ten years I have learned to maintain my weight through hiking, Pilates and staying active. Running however, has taken me to another level. It has brought out my inner athlete that I didn’t even know existed. Within the last twenty nine months I have successfully completed several 10K’s, a triathlon, six half marathons and five full marathons. Not bad for a P.E. dropout. Surf City Marathon will be my sixth Marathon!

On Marathon day you will most likely find me sporting hot pink, and mixing in silly Peter Pan kicks with my pace. It is also common for me to break into dance or sing If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands somewhere around mile 18. No, I’m not clinically nuts, but the Mind Body Fit Club girls say, “We’re crazy in a good way, and crazy is contagious!” I like the Marathon experience to be fun, and inspirational. So, I run at a comfortable pace for me, and try to keep smiles on the faces of those around me. I’m not running to be an elite athlete. I do it because it has taught me to dig deep, enabled me to break through mental barriers, build self confidence, and let’s face it; fitting into skinny jeans after three kids is a really good thing.
